CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University ) led the Queens University of Charlotte Royals (9-7/8-3 CC) over the Erskine College Flying Fleet (6-9/5-6 CC) by a score of 82-54 Monday night at the Ovens Athletics Center in Conference Carolinas action. Hudley scored the game-high 21 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, also a game high.
Queens started off on the right foot from the opening jump ball. After trading buckets with the game at six-all two back-to-back threes, the first by Ashley McGuirt (Indian Trail, N.C., Providence Day) and the second by Cecilia Tchangoue (St. Jean Le Blanc, France, Forsyth Country Day), doubled the Queens score and started an offensive run. The Royals scored 16 straight before the Fleet's Porsha Morgan hit a three to slow Queens.
The Fleet were able to pull the Royals within six, but that was close enough for the host team and they opened the lead up again, closing the half with a nine point edge, 38-29.
The second half was opened by two Erskine field goals, but then the second half was all Queens. The Royals played well-balanced basketball, blocking shots and making baskets when they counted. Jessica Lewis (Hampton, Va., Bethel) dished out the ball and ended the game with seven assists.
At the end of the game Queens came away with the 30 point win, 82-54.
In addition to Hudley's 21 point effort, Shakaria Hamlin (Hartsville, S.C., Hartsville) scored 16 and Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) chipped in 14. Jazmine Edmonds (Manassas, Va., CD Hylton) had 10 rebounds.
Erskine was led by Mary Ann Landford with 11 points and Neci Allen added 10.
