CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ) scores four goals in a tough loss to the Pfeiffer University Falcons tonight at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals lost the battle by a score of 11-10.
The Falcons came out ready to play scoring a quick goal off of a free position shot by Heidi Karaszkiewicz. They continued their pace of scoring with Karaszkiewicz leading the way with four goals in the first half.
The Royals picked up the pace after a timeout by Head Coach Meghan Dennehy. Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y. , Geneva), Caitlin O'Rourke ( Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs ), and Kelley Duffey came out and scored three goals to close the half putting the game at 6-5.
The second half of play went back and forth between the two teams. Pfeiffer capitalized on multiple free position shots as the Royals continued running their offenses to find the back of the net.
Duffey was fouled and scored a free position shot at the 1:42 mark to put the Royals down by one. Queens had a chance to tie the game with a shot by Duffey that went wide followed by a shot by Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md., John Carroll) that was after the buzzer went off.
Duffey led the Royals with four goals and one assist. Martin scored two goals and tallied two assists. Brittany Philip (Painted Post, N.Y., East), Kelly Wrightson (Germantown, Md., Damascus ), Caitlin O'Rourke, and Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Winter Springs)scored one goal each. Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll )recorded 11 saves.
Karaszkiewicz led the Falcons with five goals followed by Sarah Hebberd and Kelly McConnell with two a piece. Krissy Bentolila scored one. Caitlin Ryan tallied 11 saves.
The Royals are on the road for spring break playing tough competition. They will be back home on the 19th of March against Belmont Abbey College.
