Pfeiffer Sneaks Past Queens Women’s Lax 11-10

Royals honor senior class on Saturday

MISENHEIMER, N.C.- The Pfeiffer Falcons women's lacrosse team snuck past the Queens Royals Wednesday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C., by a score of 11-10. The loss drops Queens to 2-9 on the season and 2-5 in Conference Carolinas play. Pfeiffer improves to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Alyssa Hughes (Damascus, Md. , Damascus ) scored her first of three goals in the game for Queens on a free position shot to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Brittany Weller ( Fallston, Md., Fallston ) followed up Hughes' goal 26 seconds later unassisted. Pfeiffer answered back and added two to go up 4-2 with 13:00 to play in the first.

Queens tallied three more goals from Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y. , Geneva), Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Winter Springs), and Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ). Pfeiffer chipped in two more unassisted goals from Sarah Hebberd and Alex Cook to make the score 6-5 going into the break.

Pfeiffer and Queens each tallied five goals in the second half. Hughes tallied two of the five, both in woman-down situations and both unassisted. Brittany Philip (Painted Post, N.Y., East), Duffey and Martin added the three others.

The Falcons outshot the Royals 30-21 and took a commanding 22-14 lead in the fight for ground balls.  Pfeiffer also won 15 of 23 draw controls.

Leading the Royals was Martin with three points off of two goals and one assist. Martin also grabbed three ground balls and one draw control. Hughes tallied three goals and marked one ground ball and one draw control. Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll ) made 11 saves for the Royals and had three ground balls.

Cook led the Falcons with five points off of four goals and one assist. She also nabbed one ground ball. Hebberd marked a hat trick for three points while grabbing one ground ball and one draw control.  Lindsey Rearigh played a full 60 minutes for the Falcons in goal making five saves and grabbing four ground balls.

Queens hosts Erskine on Saturday at 2pm. During halftime the Royals will honor their senior class. Prior to Senior Day, Queens travels to Lees-McRae on March 27.
