Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y. , Geneva) scored seven in the Queens University of Charlotte win over Lees-McRae College on a chilly Friday evening. Also supporting the Royals offense was
Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ) with nine points, one goal and eight assists, in the 19-12 Conference Carolinas win.
Lees-McRae (0-2/0-2) got on the scoreboard first two and a half minutes into play. Queens (1-0/1-0) answered back and started a goal-for-goal run.
With the teams tied at five all, the Royals were able to score four before the half while only giving up one. Martin scored two of her seven in the first half.
Brittany Philip (Painted Post, N.Y., East) led the team with three goals in the half to help Queens lead 9-6.
The Bobcats would get no closer to the lead in the second half. Queens continued to pour on the offense, even scoring two goals while being a man-down.
Queens scored one three of five free position shots and out-shot the Bobcats 38-33. Goalie
Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll ) made 15 saves for the Royals and Lees-McRae's Martha Peacock made nine.
Desiree Cox led the Bobcats with four goals while Tiffany Paris and Lexi King each netted three.
Lees-McRae held the advantage in draw controls, 20-13.
Queens has a quick turnaround and travels to Erskine College on Saturday for a 2pm contest. Lees-McRae also plays on Saturday, but they will be at Converse College.
