Royals volleyball stumbles in tournament

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team traveled to Jefferson City Friday for the Carson-Newman Tournament. Facing off against the hosting Eagles and Lincoln Memorial, the Royals got off to a rocky start to the tournament falling 0-3 in both matches.

Despite a slow start to the weekend, the young Royals had bright spots from several of their underclassmen. Featured in their offense was sophomore Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley ) who tallied 14 kills and 3 blocks (one solo, two assists) on the afternoon. Directing the Royals with 31 assists was Erinn Moore (Longwood, Fla., Lake Mary), who also added three aces and eight digs. Freshman Sarah Malpass (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville) continued to develop at libero, as she accumulated 13 digs for the Royals.

The Royals continue tournament play Saturday afternoon against 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. against the University of West Georgia and the University of Montevallo respectively.
