Royals lose battle with Fleet

Queens lost 2-1.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 17, 2009) – Queens University of Charlotte celebrated Senior Day this afternoon against Erskine College at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The Flying Fleet spoiled  the Royals day winning 2-1 improving their overall record to 4-8-2 and their conference record to 2-5-1. Queens slips to 5-6-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play.

Alex Connally of Erskine scored the only goal in the first half with a header.  Jack Kimber served the ball into play after a foul committed by Queens. Connally headed the ball past Chris Raines of the Royals.

The second half of play made for a heated battle between Queens and Erskine. There were seven yellow cards handed out during the half, nine in the entire game. After Jonathan Grajeda (Orange County, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury ) went down with an injury that took him out of the game, the Royals answered with a goal. Michael Lum (Trussville, Ala., Hewitt Trussville ) crossed the ball across the box to Tyler Miller (Yadkinville, N.C., Starmount )who flew in and fired the ball in to the back of the net in the 55th minute of play.

Julian Mitchell (Jacksonville, Fla., Wolson) had a chance to put the Royals in the lead but his shot slid just outside of the goal post.After a slew of yellow cards, the Flying Fleet scored a goal after a shot by Jack Kimber bounced off the cross bar and into the net. Daniel Pisani was awarded the assist on the play. The goal was the final one of the game as the Royals couldn't connect on their last few shots.

The Royals outshot Erskine 15 to 12 in the loss. Chris Raines (Aurora, Colo., Cherokee Trail) tallied eight saves on the day and Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) led in shots with four.  Patrick Morgan and Forsan Radwan each took three.

Andy Castano led the Flying Fleet with four shots while Devon Braykovich had six saves. Erskine recorded 18 fouls on the day.
