CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Two Queens University of Charlotte goals within two minutes tied up the Conference Carolinas men's soccer contest with Anderson University Saturday afternoon at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The teams walked away with a draw after two scoreless overtime periods. The tie is the first for Queens (4-1-1 overall/2-0-1 conference) and second for Anderson (3-3-2 overall. 1-0-2 conference) in conference play.
Anderson put the first points on the board when Zach Denson took a corner kick in the 14th minute of play and Rayon Markland knocked the ball past Queens keeper Dan Williams (Kingwood, Texas, Kingwood).
The Trojans struck again 20 minutes later. Luke Hammond finished a cross in the box from Alhhadj Gaho for the two goal lead.
Anderson held a slight advantage over Queens in shots, 7-5, during the first 45. Queens earned three corners, but was unable to convert for a goal in the half.
Luke Graycheck (Macon, Ga., Mount de Sales ) broke the Royals scoring draught in the 57th minute. Graycheck scored his second goal of the season with the help of Matthew Crane (Belmont, N.C., South Point ).
Just 90 seconds later Queens was awarded a penalty kick. Chad Pinnick (Satellite Beach, Fla., Satellite ), who scored a PK in the Coker game last week, sank the shot to tie the game at two-a-piece.
Again, Queens was out-shot by Anderson in the half. The Trojans doubled Queens' shots, 11-5. Williams made five saves in the half.
Six shots were taken in the two extra periods, all by Anderson, but Queens was able to deny any goals.
Trojan keeper Chris Skelton made one save in the game, in the first half. Williams totaled eight saves in the contest.
Queens hosts non-conference opponent North Georgia College and State University at the Sports Complex with a 4pm start time. Anderson rests for a week before hosting Mount Olive College in conference play on Sat., Sept. 27, at 3pm.
