Anderson Defeats Queens 3-1

Trojans early lead dominates Royals

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Anderson University's strong squad proved dominent in this evenings match at Queens University of Charlotte.  The Trojans took an early lead in the first set, looking sharp and leaving the Royals with a large point deficit to make up. The first set ended in a Trojan victory of 25-15, giving the Royals the opportunity to refocus. One more set went to the Trojans (25-16)  before the Royals picked up their momentum to take the lead, closing out the third set with a victory of 25-23.

The Royals picked up their play, and regained consistency as  Keatin McKenzie (Coral Springs, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons ) and Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley )led the team in kills, both having 11 for the night , and 29 total attacks each.  Senior Veronica Arenander (Cincinnati, Ohio, Walnut Hill )had eight kills for the evening and 36 total attacks, making her play this evening crucial to the successes of the Royals in putting away the Trojans in the third set.

Defensively, the Royals had solid play in the third and fourth sets, and they were only narrowly edged out in the fourth set as a few errors allowed the Trojans to take home the win with a score of  25-22.  Tamalea Pierce (Asheboro, N.C., SW Randolph ) contributed 11 digs for the night , Amanda Valbert (Champaign, Ill., Champaign Central ) had 32 sets to keep the Royals going. After two successful rallies in set three and four, the Trojans ultimately overpowered the Royals winning this evenings match.

The Royals next competition is on 11/4/08 against Converse College at 7:00pm in Spartanburg,S.C.
