THE SHORT STORY
In the first all-time meeting between Queens and Charlotte on Tuesday night, the 49ers used a pair of four-run innings en route to an 11-1 victory at Hayes Stadium. The Queens offense was limited to two hits on the night, both of which were extra-base hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Charlotte jumped on the board first with four runs on one hit in the bottom of the first inning. The 49ers capitalized on four free passes and a Queens error to grab an early 4-0 lead.
-The 49ers added onto their lead in the bottom of the third inning, plating two runs on three hits. Dylan Koontz led off the inning with a single that deflected off the first base bag. Alec DeMartino followed it with a single to left field before Robert Nedry dropped down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. Cale Stricklin sent a sacrifice fly to center field, advancing both runners 90 feet. Adrian Jimenez followed with a two-out RBI double to left center to give the 49ers a 6-0 cushion.
-Queens cracked into the scoring column in the top of the fourth inning.
Mitchell Basterrechea stepped in and blasted the first pitch he saw over the center field fence. The home run was Basterrechea's third of the season, and was 111MPH off the bat.
-Charlotte answered right back in the bottom half of the fourth inning by manufacturing a run. Spencer Nolan led off the inning with a four-pitch walk before a groundout to first moved Spencer into scoring position. Cody Gunderson sent a deep fly ball to center, advancing Nolan to third. Dylan Koontz stepped in and roped the first pitch he saw up the middle for an RBI single.
-For the third straight frame, Charlotte found the scoring column, plating four runs on three hits. The scoring was capped with a three-run home run to right-center off the bat of Todd Hudson to extend the 49ers lead to 11-1.
BY THE NUMBERS

Mitchell Basterrechea finished the night 1-for-3, including his third home run of the season.
-Redshirt freshman
Bradley Brown laced his fifth double of the season as part of a 1-for-3 evening at the plate.
-
Brayden Martino made his fifth appearance of the season and struck out two 49ers across a clean inning of relief.
-Wesley Jones got the start for the 49ers and tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out six Royals.
-Charlotte executed all night after getting runners on as the 49ers hit .412 with runners on base, and .333 with runners in scoring position.
