JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team saw three players garner ASUN Baseball postseason honors, which were officially announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office. Left-handed pitcher
Joey Ruller was named Third Team All-ASUN while earning Academic All-ASUN. Ruller was joined by seniors
Justin Hudson and
Davin Pollard, who earned Academic All-ASUN for the Royals as well.
The Academic All-ASUN recognizes student-athletes who excel both in competition and in the classroom. All student-athletes named to the list boast a 3.50 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
Ruller, a redshirt junior, who graduated this past weekend with a degree in finance, finished with a 3.75 grade point average (GPA) and led the pitching staff in wins with five and ERA with a 4.47 in 90.2 innings of work this season. The Charlotte native posted a career-high 10 strikeouts on May 2 against West Georgia to help the Royals to a 7-2 win. In his final three starts of the season, he was 3-0 with 19 strikeouts, seven runs, and a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings. He was a two-time ASUN Pitcher of the Week and hurled his first complete game victory on May 9 against North Florida.
Hudson, who graduated with a degree in sociology, finished with a 3.66 GPA. The senior hit .211 in ASUN action this season. He started 11 of 17 conference games, while tallying three doubles and five RBIs. In the final game of the season, the senior was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI to help the Royals to a 12-2 win over Stetson. Earlier in the month, when Queens traveled to Durham, N.C., Hudson was 1-for-3 with a home run, a pair of RBIs, and a run scored in an 11-7 win over Duke University.
Rounding out the Royals' honors is Pollard, who earned All-Academic recognition for having a 4.00 GPA and earning his degree in leadership and change. The senior appeared in 21 games on the mound, with 20 of them coming in relief and one as a starter. His lone start this season came against Duke. Eight of 20 relief appearances came against ASUN opponents. The right-hander struck out a season-high five batters against Davidson, while not allowing a run in two innings of work.
