ORLANDO, FLA. The Queens University of Charlotte men's swimming and diving team claimed a share of the ASUN Championship title on Saturday night, finishing as co-champions with 782.5 points, while the Royals' women placed third overall with 1,217.5 points to cap a strong four-day showing. This marked the second-consecutive ASUN Men's championship for the Royals.
"Amazing efforts tonight on both the men's and women's sides," Director of Swimming Jeff Dugdale said. "Our conference is stacked with talent on that talent was on center stage all week. Congratulations to Leonie [Tenzer] and Akos [Horvath] for Freshman of the Year Awards to our Diving Coach Aaron Hintz for developing the Diver of the Year in Juan Gonzalez! Thank you to my coaching staff and their significant others who support their time on the deck developing our student-athletes. Thank you to our administration, strength and training staff for their efforts in our win."
The final session featured multiple podium performances and major postseason awards for Queens.
Queens opened the evening in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle, where Leonie Tenzer delivered a runner-up finish in 16:31.48. Her performance helped secure her recognition as the ASUN Women's Freshman of the Championship.
On the men's side, Akos Horvath matched that effort in the 1,650-yard freestyle, placing second in 15:25.23. Horvath's championship performance throughout the week earned him ASUN Male Freshman of the Championship honors.
In diving competition, Juan Gonzalez delivered two strong platform performances, finishing third with a score of 263.80 before posting a 294.05 to secure a second-place finish. Gonzalez's efforts across the meet earned him ASUN Male Diver of the Championship recognition.
Back in the pool, Matheus Przewalla added another silver medal for the Royals in the men's 200-yard breaststroke, finishing second in 1:56.02.
The Royals closed the meet in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay, where Maren Patterson, Abigail Zboran, Maddie Foster, and Sabina Kupcova combined for a 3:18.88 to secure a runner-up finish and end the championships on the podium.
Queens' success extended beyond individual performances. Aaron Hintz was named ASUN Men's Diving Coach of the Year, while Jeff Dugdale earned ASUN Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors, recognizing the leadership behind the Royals' co-championship performance.
