CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head women's basketball coach
Jen Brown has officially announced the hiring of Kasey Kidwell as an assistant coach. A former standout guard for the Royals and the program's first Division I professional signee, Kidwell returns to the Queen City bringing high-level playing experience and a deep passion for mentorship.
"Returning to Queens in this new role is truly a full-circle moment for me," said Kidwell. "I'm honored to step in as Coach Kid and excited to help lead, support, and grow alongside this incredible team."
In her lone season at Queens, Kidwell made an immediate impact. The Asheville native started 27 of 28 games, averaging 11.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Kidwell led the team in three-pointers made and assists, while finishing third in the ASUN Conference in free-throw percentage with an 84-percent clip. Kidwell reached double figures in 20 games, including a double-double against Toccoa Falls. Kidwell also poured in a career-high 24 points on a 6-for-13 shooting performance and 9-for-10 mark from the charity stripe in a standout effort against Jacksonville.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Coach Kid back to the program, this time as a coach," said Brown. "Kasey was incredible competitor and leader for us at Queens, and it's been amazing to see her grow through her professional career overseas."
Following the 2022-23 season, Kidwell signed a professional contract with Herner TC of the Damen Basketball Bundesliga, Germany's premier women's basketball league founded in 1947. Kidwell played two seasons with Herner TC and was the 23rd player recruited and coached by
Jen Brown to reach the professional level.
"Coach Kidwell brings deep understanding of the game, a relentless work ethic, and a passion for helping young women succeed on and off the court," said Brown. "She's always been like family, and I couldn't be more excited to have her on my staff."
Kidwell also gained coaching experience working with youth and travel programs in Asheville, leading group training sessions and mentoring athletes at showcase events.
Before her time at Queens, Kidwell spent four seasons competing at the Division I level with ASUN rival Austin Peay State University. A standout at Carolina Day School in Asheville, she was a two-time state champion and 1,000-point scorer, earning All-State and All-Western North Carolina accolades during her prep career.
