JACKSONVILLE, FLA. —The Queens University of Charlotte softball squad wrapped up its weekend series at North Florida on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-1 at the UNF Softball Complex.
- North Florida came out strong, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take early control.
- Queens regrouped and showed resilience the rest of the way, allowing just two additional runs across the final five innings. After a tough first inning, Jordan Dunn and Abby Craver combined to steady the pitching staff, limiting the Ospreys' offense to just two runs over the final 5 and 2/3 innings.
- Queens scored its lone run in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore Kaylin Garlick sparked the rally by reaching base and later crossing the plate on a clutch two-out RBI single by senior Emma Frye.
- The Royals recorded five hits on the day, but were unable to string together the big inning needed to overcome the early deficit.
- Defensively, Queens played an error-free game, highlighted by a double play turned by the infield to help limit further North Florida damage in the middle innings.
ROYAL RUNDOWN
- Emma Frye delivered a key two-out RBI single in the fifth inning, finishing one-for-three with an RBI and reaching base twice.
- Lindsey DeRoeck added a base hit while also recording a team-high seven putouts at first base to anchor the defense.
- Kaylee DeJesus chipped in with a single and made two putouts and an assist in left field.
- Jordan Dunn provided a strong 3 and 2/3 innings of relief in the circle, claiming a K in the mix.
- Abby Craver finished the game with two clean innings, giving up just two hits with no runs or walks to keep the Royals within striking distance.
