Queens Softball Falls to Boston U in Tight Battle

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Despite a strong start and a hard-fought effort, the Queens University of Charlotte softball team fell just short against Boston University, 4-3, on Tuesday evening at The Stick. The Royals jumped ahead early but couldn't hold off the Terriers' late-game push.

ROYAL RUNDOWN

  • After a pair of scoreless innings, Boston U opened the scoring in the top of the third. The Terriers pieced together back-to-back singles from Lyons and Coyle before Christopher grounded out, allowing the first run to cross the plate. Moments later, Coyle brought in another run on a fielder's choice to give Boston a 2-0 lead.
  • The Royals responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom half. Kaylee DeJesus sparked the rally with a leadoff single, her second hit of the night. Freshman Taylor Jones followed with a deep RBI double to right-center, driving in DeJesus and cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • Queens kept the pressure on as Makala Strickland reached on a single, setting the table for Lindsey DeRoeck. With two on and one out, DeRoeck ripped a two-RBI double into right field, plating Jones and Strickland to give the Royals their first lead of the game at 3-2.
  • After a quiet fourth inning, especially after Kaylee DeJesus turned an inning-ending double play on the Terriers, Boston regained momentum in the fifth. Deppiesse led off with a double, her second of the night, before Williams lined an RBI single to even the score at 3-3. The Terriers took the lead for good when Christopher lifted a sacrifice fly to bring Walsh home, pushing Boston ahead 4-3.
  • Queens fought to respond but struggled to string together hits in the later innings. Ricard retired the Royals in order in the sixth, and despite a seventh-inning push with a leadoff single by Strickland, Boston's defense held firm, sealing the 4-3 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • DeJesus finished the game 3-for-3 with a run scored.
  • DeRoeck drove in a team-high two RBI on her 2-for-3 night.
  • Jones went 1-for-4 with an RBI double while also pitching 4.2 innings in relief.
  • Abby Craver started the game, tossing 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, and striking out two.
