CHARLOTTE, N.C. —The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team earned the Royal Service Award for the month of January, the athletic communications office announced today.
The team's dedication to giving back to the community was evident, as 15 of its members actively participated in volunteer opportunities throughout the month. Collectively, the team logged 37 hours of validated service, achieving an impressive Team Impact Score of 75.
A major highlight of their service was their involvement with environmental sustainability initiatives, including the "Adopt a Street" program and "Keep Charlotte Beautiful." Team members participated in street cleanups which accounted for a significant portion of their volunteer efforts.
The team also engaged in literacy-focused service work through "Promising Pages," a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing books and educational resources to children in need. Their participation in this initiative helped promote literacy and learning opportunities for young students in Charlotte.
Overall, the Queens field hockey team attended 21 commitments, covering various causes, including environmental sustainability, children's education, and community enrichment programs—making a difference beyond the field.
