Queens Welcomes USC Upstate for Final Non-Conference Test

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens closes its non-conference schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. match-up against USC Upstate in Curry Arena, highlighted by the Royals annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Game.

THE MATCHUPS
Queens and USC-Upstate meet for the ninth time, with the Royals holding a 3–5 record in the all-time series. Queens has won three of the last four meetings, including a 65–58 road victory in Spartanburg on Nov. 22, 2024.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (5–5 overall)
  •  The Royals average 39.9 rebounds per game, playing essentially even on the glass, and have reached 40 or more rebounds in five games this season behind a balanced frontcourt effort.
  •  Defensively, Queens produces 8.2 steals and 3.2 blocks per game, applying steady ball pressure while protecting the rim with multiple contributors.
  • Brenae Jones-Grant anchors the interior and the offense, leading the team at 15.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while shooting 60.8 percent from the floor.
  • Ana Barreto drives the perimeter attack, averaging 11.9 points per game and ranking among the ASUN leaders with 27 made three-pointers, while also leading the team in minutes and adding 16 steals.
  • Jermany Mapp provides veteran scoring and spacing at 9.5 points per game, connecting on 15 threes and shooting 90.0 percent at the free-throw line (18–20).
  •  Dayuna Colvin serves as the primary facilitator, averaging 8.7 points and 3.6 assists, while leading the roster with 36 assists and converting 80.0 percent from the foul line.
  •  Off the bench, Breah Franks supplies efficient minutes, averaging 4.5 points on 51.3 percent shooting, continuing to give Queens reliable production in the rotation.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS (5-8 overall)
  • USC-Upstate enters Saturday at 5–8 overall, posting wins over Erskine, South Carolina State, Montreat, Western Carolina, and Agnes Scott during non-conference play.
  • The Spartans are averaging 61.1 points per game while allowing 65.3, shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three, connecting on 7.5 three-pointers per contest.
  •  Cassie Gallagher leads the offense at 15.8 points per game, shooting 47.8 percent from three (32–67) while also contributing on the defensive end.
  • Aubrie Kierscht adds perimeter production at 10.3 points per game, knocking down 29 threes at a 46.8 percent clip, giving the Spartans multiple outside threats.
  • The frontcourt is anchored by Aijah Palmore and Vera Söderblom, who combine for nearly 14 rebounds per game, with Palmore averaging 7.3 boards and Söderblom adding 6.6.
  • Ball security has been a challenge, as Upstate averages 22.5 turnovers per game, resulting in a –9.0 turnover margin.
  • Defensively, Upstate averages 5.4 steals and 3.3 blocks per game, relying on size in the paint.
