Grant Leonard is pleased to welcome JUCO standout Asjon Anderson to the Queen City on Wednesday afternoon. Anderson joins the Royals after being named a JUCO Top 100 Prospect by JUCO Recruiting following a season at Ranger Junior College.
"Asjon is an uber-talented guard who put-up eye-popping numbers in one of the toughest junior college leagues in the country," said Leonard. "His lightning quick first step and ability to score in multiple areas will really help us in the next two seasons in the Atlantic Sun."
The 6-2 guard from Tacoma, Washington had a sensational sophomore season averaging 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. Anderson was also efficient from downtown shooting 37 percent from behind the arc across 30 games. The sophomore poured in 20+ points in 18 outings, including a season-high 32 points against Temple College. The success led to Anderson earning First Team All-Region and First Team All-NTJCAC honors.
Prior to joining the Rangers, Anderson spent his freshman season at Utah Tech where he made 17 appearances, including an appearance at Arizona. Against UTRGV, Anderson poured in a season-high six points behind a pair of three pointers.
A product of Mount Tahoma High School in Washington, Anderson was a three-time All-League and All-Area standout. Anderson earned 2021-22 Tacoma Athletic Commission's Boys Basketball Offensive Player of the Year, and he collected state, WIBCA, and King/Pierce County All-Star honors. In his senior campaign, Anderson led the offense averaging 32.0 points, six rebounds, and six assists as he posted four-straight 40-point outings, which were the most in Tacoma League history. Anderson finished his high school career with over 1,500 career points.
"I chose Queens because it was the best opportunity for me to pursue my dreams of playing professional basketball," said Anderson. "Queens felt like home as soon as I stepped foot on campus."
Anderson chose Queens after receiving interest from Coastal Carolina, UMass Lowell, San Diego State, Radford, Cal Baptist, Sam Houston State, and many others.
The Royals are coming off their second season in Division 1 which included their second straight ASUN Tournament appearance. Queens took down FGCU in the opening round of the ASUN Tournament before falling to the eventual tournament champion in Stetson. The Royals faced a challenging schedule which included Elite Eight opponents in #9 Duke and #14 Clemson. Despite the tough slate, Queens ranked 10
th in the country in adjusted tempo and averaged 80.1 points per game which was fourth-most in the ASUN.
