CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Royals are headed back on the road to face the Radford Highlanders in a two-game tilt tomorrow, March 12 for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM start times.
The games will be played at Radford Softball Stadium in Radford, Va. Both games will have live statistic coverage available.
GAME NOTES AND FAST FACTS
QUEENS ROYALS
- The Royals enjoyed a few days off after inclement weather impacted their midweek slate at Gardner-Webb. altering their doubleheader to a single game in Boiling Springs last Wednesday.
- In the pitcher's duel at Brickley Stadium, Autumn Courtney pitched 12 strikeouts while the offense finished the night with four hits (Kayla Smith, Brooke Piper, Madison Cantoni, Ashlyn Mickler).
- Courtney and the defense held the Bulldogs scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when a sacrifice bunt and a single to second scored the only run of the day for Gardner-Webb to clinch the win.
- To date, Courtney sits with a .96 ERA — and leads the ASUN in a plethora of categories. Courtney leads the league in opposing batting average (.157), strikeouts looking (28), and total strikeouts (28).
- Also among the ASUN leaderboards is Kayla Smith, who is tied for fifth in the league in total home runs (5) and is tied for sixth in the league in stolen bases (9).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
RADFORD HIGHLANDERS
- The Highlanders have won three of their last four games, including the most recent win over Saint Joseph's College (8-0) in five innings. Junior infielder Cassi Barbato led the way with three RBI on two hits. This matchup will be a true test for the Royals as the Highlanders have only lost one game at home so far this season.
- Radford has three of the top four individual batting averages in the Big South, first-place Lexie Roberts (.403), third place Abby Wilson (.357), and fourth place Barbato (.351).
- Along with leading the conference in batting average, Roberts, the sophomore outfielder, leads the conference in hits (27). She is also tied for third in runs (17).
- Wilson, the graduate catcher, is in the top five in numerous categories in the Big South: second in OPS (1.090) and slugging percentage (.625), tied for second in RBI (17), third in OBP (.465), tied for fourth in doubles (6) and total bases (35), and tied for fifth in home runs (3).
