LOUISVILLE, K.Y. - The Queens University of Charlotte cross-country team gained some big cross-country meet experience Saturday as they raced in the Live in Lou Classic. The men raced in the 8K Gold race while the women competed in the 5K Gold race.
What Happened?
- Tom Heal led the Royals in the 8K race at 81st place with a time of 24:51.2. Victor Tvistholm Jorgensen then followed with a time of 25:21.5.
- In the women's 5K gold race, Beth Cook led the Royals at 18:22.9. Livia Wespe followed with a time of 18:32.7.
From Coach Krolick
"Today was the first big cross-country meet experience. It showed. Our men were tactically terrible getting out too slow. Tom Heal and Moritz Kleesiek did the best job recovering and moving up well through the second half. Livia Wespe and Beth Cook managed alright as freshmen in this type of field for the first time. I expect this experience to benefit both immensely as we move forward in their careers. Both teams were hurting having our 5th runner too far back and the lack of a front-running #1 in the top pack of runners. I expect a 5th runner to emerge for both teams over the next few weeks. With freshmen and sophomores composing 4/5 scoring runners on both sides, I'm excited about where we can be in the future."
What's Next?
The Royals will host their second meet of the season as they will be back in the Queen City on Friday, October 6th for the Royal Cross-Country Challenge at 3:30 PM.
