CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte Director of Track & Field and Cross-Country Jake Krolick is excited to announce the addition of Kyle Helf to his staff as an assistant track and field coach. Helf comes to the Queen City after a three-year stint as a private coach for individual and post-collegiate athletes.
"Coach Helf brings almost a decade of experience coaching at the NCAA DI level and spent most of that here in Charlotte", said Coach Krolick. "His expertise in every throw is what makes him such an attractive addition. He comes to us highly recommended, and I know our student athletes are in good hands with him."
Prior to private coaching, Helf was the assistant track and field/throws coach at UNC-Charlotte from 2012 to 2019. In his stint with the 49ers, Helf was responsible for coaching two Atlantic 10 Conference records in Men's Indoor shotput and discus, an NCAA All-American in women's weight throw, two NCAA National Championship qualifiers, 18 NCAA East Preliminary Qualifiers, 15 Conference Champions in throws, and a CUSA Championship record in women's weight throw. Helf was also responsible for recruiting the number one men's discus in 2017 and help coached the Serbian National Record in the hammer throw.
To start his collegiate coaching career, Helf was an assistant track and field/throws coach at Campbell University from 2010 to 2012. In his time there, Helf was the recruiting coordinator, equipment manager and made the competition schedule for the 2012 season. Kyle Helf coached one NCAA East Preliminary Qualifier and five school records in just under two seasons. Helf also served as the interim head track and field coach for the Fighting Camels in 2011.
On the men's side, his coaching bests include: 18.55m in the shot-put, 58.15m in discus, 68.22m in the hammer throw, 20.42m in the weight throw and 65.43m in the javelin throw. For the women, Helf's coaching bests include 15.85m in the shot put, 49.94m in the discus, 60.33m in the hammer throw, 21.74m in the weight throw, and 41.25m in the javelin throw.
Helf was a three-year letter winner at Georgia as a thrower on the track and field team from 2005 to 2008. He graduated with the fourth-best Georgia all-time shot-put record in both indoor and outdoor. Helf also was a finalist in the NCAA Championships in the shot put in 2008, a four-time NCAA Championships qualifier in the shot put in both indoor and outdoor, and a bronze medalist in the Shot Put at the SEC Championships for both indoors and outdoors in 2007.
"I would like to thank Coach Krolick and Queens University for the opportunity to join their already successful program", said Coach Helf. "I am looking forward to working with the throwers and helping the team in its transition to Division I track and field."
