Royals Land Standout Guard Deyton Albury

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head men's basketball coach Grant Leonard is excited to announce the addition of standout guard Deyton Albury, as officially announced on Thursday afternoon. Albury joins the Royals program following two seasons at national powerhouse Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"When seeing Deyton play for the first time in a huge national setting, it took less than 10 minutes to say to our coaching staff, "Deyton is a Queens type of player," said Coach Leonard. "He is a winner and absolutely the toughest player on the floor. Deyton will carve out his own niche but reminded me of a point guard version of former Queens great Shaun Willett. We couldn't be more excited that Deyton will come to Charlotte and help lead Queens the next two seasons."

This past season with the Indians, Albury guided Chipola to a 29-5 overall record after starting the year 21-0 marking the best start in school history. The Indians claimed a share of the Panhandle Conference title, made an appearance in the NJCAA Division 1 Sweet 16, and achieved a national ranking as high as No. 1. Albury appeared in all 34 games, including 28 starts and averaged 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. The Nassau, Bahamas native scored a career-high 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists against Northwest Florida State College on Feb. 11, 2023. Albury was named First Team Panhandle All-Conference and ranked No. 56 in the 2023 Junior College Basketball Top 100 Player Rankings by jucorecruiting.com.

For his career at Chipola, Albury guided the Indians to a 59-11 overall record, two conference titles, two trips to the NJCAA National Tournament, and a Region 8 State Championship.

"Deyton is first and foremost a competitor," said Chipola Head Coach Donnie Tyndall. "He is a tough hard-nosed very versatile player that can play and defend multiple positions! I know he has been impressed with Coach Leonard and Coach Wilson and the job that they have done recruiting him and he feels like the program is based on all the right things there at Queens. I believe that is a perfect fit for Deyton and feel like he can help the program play for championships!"

Albury is a 6-2 point guard out of Nassau, Bahamas. He graduated from Sunrise Christian School in Bel Aire, Kansas in 2020 as an honors student. The following season, Albury attended Believe Prep where he was the MVP and Big Shots Prep Champion.

"After having conversations with my family and coaches, I just felt comfortable that Queens was the right spot for me," said Albury. "My visit was nice and they made me feel a part of the family from the start. I love their play style, the area, and their facilities. I was able to build a great relationship with the coaches and I really felt like I was wanted. The next chapter is something I've dreamt about as a little kid and I can't wait to get started. Go Royals #242totheworld."

The Royals are coming off their first Division 1 season as a member of the ASUN Conference. Queens posted an 18-15 overall record and a 7-11 conference record, including a quarterfinal appearance in the ASUN Tournament. Queens has turned in 15 or more wins in nine consecutive seasons dating back to 2013-14. The Royals return four starters who averaged over 20.0 minutes per game last season. Queens ranked second in the league in scoring averaging pouring in 77.7 points per game and second in the league in rebounds per game with 37.3.
