LYNCHBURG, V.A. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's indoor track and field teams made a big splash Friday as they competed in their first ASUN Indoor Championships. The Royals were led by
Melanie Welsing as she broke records on Day 1 of the ASUN Meet. Following the day, Queens' men sit eighth while the women are fourth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The pentathlon team scored a total of 20 pts with four scorers who made an impact. Melanie Welsing led the way taking second in the event while Emilija Kusic was fourth. Cerys Lee finished fifth and Mia Milasinovic took sixth. The squad is now ranked 4th in DI
- Melanie Welsing broke the ASUN record in the 60m indoor pentathlon hurdles with a time of 8.52 seconds. Welsing also set a new school record in the pentathlon with a score of 3,931.
- Welsing also qualified for the 60m hurdle final with a time of 8.57 seconds in the prelims.
- Cerys Lee had a personal best pentathlon performance and scored 3,630 points. Lee also scored two points in the long jump after placing seventh in the event.
- Mitchel Cox finished in the top six in the mile which automatically qualifies him for tomorrow's final.
- Thomas Heal ran a personal best 4:13:44 in the mile to finish 13th in the prelims.
- Dionysius Rolle broke a school record in the 60m with a time of 7 seconds.
- Rolle also set a 200m school record with a time of 21.98 seconds.
- Amadeus Waluga bested his performance from earlier in the season to take 12th place with a mark of 14.15 meters.
- Matthew Sweetenburg recorded a time in the 200 meter that places him on Queens' top-10 list.
UP NEXT
The second and final day of the ASUN Indoor Championships will take place on Saturday, February 25 at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
