Royals Take Charge in Day One of Fall Frenzy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queens men's & women's swimming & diving squads completed the first day of the three-day 2023 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy on Friday at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

The Queens women currently sit in first place with 439.5 points after day one. Following Queens is Nova Southeastern with 365.5 and James Madison 329 to round the top three. For the men, the Royals sit far ahead with 652, while Wingate put up a 399 and Nova Southeastern put up 331.5 on the day.

"The program as a whole swam amazing tonight," Director of Swimming Jeff Dugdale said. "To watch records fall and best times was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing our swimmers continue to improve throughout the weekend."

PRELIM NOTES

  • Starting off the meet, Sophia Lange took home a third-place finish in the Women's 500 Yard Free with a time of 4:53.23.
  • Abigail Zboran swiped another first-place swim of 2:01.15 in the 200 Yard IM, a season-best time for the rookie. Tova Andersson finished in third in the event with a time of 2:02.19.
  • Yannick Plasil made his presence known in the Men's 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:50.02, good for a first-place finish.
  • In the Women's 50 Yard Free, Danielle Melilli swam an ASUN-best and career-best time of 22.33, while Ryley Heck finished right behind her with a time of 22.84, marking another personal-best.
  • In the final Friday Prelim event, Matej Dusa and Daniel Meszaros took first and second in the Men's 50 Yard Free with times of 19.61 and 20.09, respectively.

FINALS NOTES

  • Kicking off the Friday Finals session, the quartet of Melilli, Heck, Libby Livesay, and Maren Patterson took home the Women's 200 Yard Free Relay with a time of 1:30.70 — a meet record AND an ASUN record; beating their previous ASUN-best time of 1:33.88 swam on Oct. 20.
  • Zboran snagged a meet record, season record, and ASUN record with a time of 1:59.42 in the 200 Yard IM.
  • Balazs Berecz, Noah Beladi, and Plasil finished 1-2-3 in the Men's 200 Yard IM — with all season-best times of 1:48.24, 1:48.83, and 1:49.23, respectively.
  • Beating her own meet record she swam earlier in the day, Melilli swam away with a first-place time of 22.26 in the Women's 50-Yard Free.
  • Another 1-2-3 finish occurred in the Men's 50 Yard Free from Matej Dusa (19.48), Daniel Meszaros (19.93), and Nien Levy (20.20).
  • Finishing off the day in the Men's 400 Yard Medley Relay, the group of Caden Fritz, Beladi, Plasil, and Meszaros finished in first-place with a time of 3:12.18.
 

Action will continue at the Fall Frenzy on Saturday, with Prelims starting at 9:30 a.m. before Finals at 5:00 p.m.
