ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. – The No. 7 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team suffered a tough 4-3 loss to No. 19 Newberry in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional tournament on Friday afternoon. The loss is just the second of the season for the Royals and ends their season at an incredible 16-2 record.
 
Queens opened the afternoon capturing the doubles point behind solid play on the top two courts. The No. 16 ranked duo, Jill Morse and Marie Bertran De Balanda continued their dominant seasons with a 6-4 victory on the top court. At the No. 2 court, rookies Hanna Axelsson and Amelie Allard defeated Singh/Conwell convincingly 6-2 to clinch the early 1-0 lead for the Royals.
 
In singles action, the Royals picked up victories on the No. 5 and No. 6 courts. Freshman Amelie Allard stepped in and took down Rosie Hartfield on the No. 5 court 6-4, 6-4 to extend the Queens lead to 2-1. Grace Forbes was stellar from the No. 6 court as the sophomore did not drop a set winning 6-0, 6-0 to bring the Royals within a point of clinching. The No. 19 Wolves would not back down as they took the top four singles flights to storm from behind.
 
Newberry will advance to the Southeast Regional Finals tomorrow, May 7 at 1:00 p.m. The Wolves will take on Flagler for a spot in the NCAA Championships on the line.
