CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The top-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team will face No. 19 Wingate University in the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship title game. The Royals will be in the hunt for their eighth consecutive championship win having not lost a single one since joining the SAC.
The Royals received a first-round bye after closing the regular-season with a perfect 17-0 record, earning their seventh SAC Regular-Season Championship. They then defeated Lincoln Memorial University in the semifinal round by a score of 25-4 to advance to the title game.
This season, Queens is led by a pair of super seniors in
Rebecca Kinsley and
Kyleigh Masteran. Kinsley, an attacker, totals 117 points on 63 goals and 54 assists while Masteran, a midfielder, has 99 points on 79 goals and 20 assists. Kinsley set a new single season point record this year while Masteran set a new single-season goal record.
On the defensive end,
Grace Guglielmo leads with 33 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls. She also has 82 draw controls. In goal,
Sharn Muffett is 8-0 on the year with a .519 save percentage while
Caroline Kraemer is 10-0 with a .485 save percentage.
The Bulldogs enter the title game with a 15-2 record after defeating Newberry, 15-10 in the semifinals. Becca Ruiz led in goals with five in the win.
Leah Knowles leads the Bulldogs this season with 86 points on 62 goals and 24 assists. Ruiz has 56 points on 43 goals and 13 assists.
In goal, Megan Biase is 14-2 with a .458 save percentage. Emily Rango is 1-0 having competed in nine games. She has a .519 save percentage.
Queens leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 10-0, after winning the regular-season game by a score of 19-12.
