CHARLOTTE N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (28-20, 15-9 SAC) is gearing up to travel to Harrogate, Tenn., to start postseason play in the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Championship. The fifth-seeded Royals will face off against fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial University (32-18, 15-9 SAC) in the quarterfinals on Apr. 29 at 11 a.m.
The Royals are making their return to the conference championships for the first time since the 2019 season. They enter with 28 wins after splitting their final series of the season with nationally-ranked Anderson University.
Jordyn Thompson has been leading the Royals with a team-high batting average of .336 while
Kayla Smith ranks second at .329. Sophomore pitcher
Haley Nelson leads the Royals in home runs with 13 to sit two away from holding the single-season record.
In the pitching circle,
Jordan Dunn leads Queens with 124 strikeouts and a 16-11 record. Dunn has pitched over 163 innings.
The Railsplitters enter the postseason on an 11-game skid after closing the regular season with a pair of losses to No. 19 North Georgia. Emma Webb leads with a batting average of .375 and 44 RBI while Sierra Hucklebee has a batting average of .365 to go along with a team-leading 10 home runs this season.
Emma Frost leads the pitching crew for LMU with a 28-25 record and a 2.50 ERA. She has recorded 200 strikeouts this year to rank third in the SAC.
Friday's game will be the third meeting this season between the Royals and the Railsplitters. Queens trails in the all-time series, 12-7, after dropping both regular-season games this season.
