CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team (16-11, 7-2 IVA) is set to host the 2022 IVA Men's Volleyball Championships on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 inside Curry Arena at the Levine Center. The Royals earned the No. 2 seed in the South bracket and will square off against the No. 3 seed from the North bracket, D'Youville University (8-11, 2-5 IVA) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The winner will move on to face the winner between Daemen and Tusculum at 7:30 p.m. later that evening while the loser will face the loser of Daemen and Tusculum.
For the second straight year, the IVA Championships come to the Queen City. The tournament features eight schools, including Queens, Lincoln Memorial, Alderson Broaddus, Limestone, Fairleigh Dickinson, Daemen, Tusculum, and D'Youville. Each team will play a pair of matches on Friday before playing in one final match on Saturday. The IVA Championship is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Fans can tune into all of the matches and follow live video or live stats on the Queens Sports Network.
Queens enters the postseason on a seven-game winning streak which is the longest in the program's young history. The Royals 16 wins this season is a new program high as they are in their fifth year of existence. Queens has played well against IVA opponents this season going 7-2 with their only two losses at the hands of Lincoln Memorial who sits just outside of the AVCA DI-DII Top 15 Coaches Poll. The Royals are 6-4 this season inside Curry Arena.
Queens has been led all season by
Daniel Leitao. The junior is averaging 3.31 points per set behind 2.82 kills per set and 2.42 assists per set. The Lisbon, Portugal native posted a triple-double of 11 kills, 27 assists, and 15 digs in the season opener at Emmanuel.
Jack Brinkman leads the Royals attack with 325 total kills while hitting .234. Senior
Brandon Grabow facilitates the Royals attack with a team-high 748 assists, and 8.50 per set. Grabow notched 70 assists in the five-set match at King setting a new program record while also setting an NCAA high this season for assists in a five-set match.
The Royals, and all participating teams will be participating in a community service project for the entirety of the tournament. Teams and fans are encouraged to bring old sporting equipment to donate to the "Clean Out with a Cause" foundation. The organization collects old equipment and gear and sends to areas around the country and the world.
