THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team dropped a tightly contested opening set but responded with three straight set wins to defeat Catawba in four on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Catawba edged out the first set in extra points, 31-29, in a back-and-forth battle that featured 12 ties. Despite the setback, Queens regrouped and found its rhythm in the second set, using a .276 hitting percentage and improved defensive play to even the match with a 25-17 win.
The Royals carried that momentum into the third, capitalizing on Catawba errors and holding the visitors to just a .043 hitting percentage. Queens used a balanced offensive effort to take control of the match with a 25-19 set victory.
In the fourth, Queens closed strong, hitting .296 while controlling the tempo throughout. The Royals limited Catawba's opportunities and pulled away late to secure the 25-17 set win and the 3-1 match victory.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Casey Maas recorded a match-high 21 kills on .367 hitting, adding eight digs.
- Kaden Saurer finished with eight kills on an errorless .320 percentage along with four blocks.
