No. 11 Royals Ready for SAC Quarterfinals Thursday Afternoon

SUMTER, S.C. – The No. 11 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team is set to begin their postseason journey in the South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C. The top seeded women will square off with No. 8 seeded Lincoln Memorial at 2:00 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's matches in the morning. The winner will advance to face either No. 4 seeded Newberry or No. 5 Tusculum on Friday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Royals claimed the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after winning the tiebreaker with Wingate as the two programs shared co-regular season champion honors. The regular season title marked the first time in program history that the Royals have won the South Atlantic Conference regular season title. The Royals enter the tournament as winners of their last two after having an 11 game winning streak snapped in early April. Royals head coach, Billy Boykin, was named the South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year for the first time on the women's side after his squad reached the highest ITA ranking in program history at No. 10.
 
Queens has been led all season by sophomore Jill Morse. A conference player of the week on April 4, Morse landed First Team All-Conference Singles and Doubles honors. The Okatie, S.C. native was ranked No. 30 in the latest ITA National Singles rankings as the sophomore is 15-3 in singles play against DII opponents. Morse also held a 9-1 record at No. 2 singles against conference opponents.
 
Morse and teammate Marie Bertran De Balanda landed First Team Doubles honors for the first time together. The pair was ranked No. 22 in the latest ITA National Doubles rankings as they hold a 9-1 record at No. 1 doubles in South Atlantic Conference play.
 
First Team All-Conference nominee Viktorija Veselinova has been outstanding from the top court for the Royals. The Skopje, Macedonia native was 8-3 in singles play against conference opponents and played a critical part in the Royals clinching their first ever conference regular season title. Freshman Hanna Axelsson earned Third Team Singles honors for posting a 9-3 record at No. 3 singles in conference play.
 
Marie Bertran De Balanda, Katya Khramtcova, and Caity Klaassen have all played integral parts in the Royals success. The trio is 23-6 against South Atlantic Conference opponents on the season.
