CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 9 Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team (6-0, 5-0 South Atlantic Conference) knocked off 22nd ranked Wingate University (4-6, 2-1 South Atlantic Conference) at the Howard Levine Tennis Center on Monday afternoon. The victory improved the Royals to a perfect 6-0 record, including an undefeated mark in league play as the Royals are perfect at home.

Billy Boykin is proud of the way his team has opened the season. "I couldn't be any prouder of this women's team," opened Boykin. "They fought so hard to win this match. It was a total team effort and we are coming together as a group. We keep getting better each week and it's a lot of fun to watch this team grow together."
The Queens' women took the doubles point for the sixth consecutive time this year, including a 6-1 triumph at No. 2 by the tandem of
Viktorija Veselinova and
Caity Klaassen. The duo of
Hanna Axelsson and
Amelie Allard also dominated the court as they claimed victory, 6-2, at No. 3 clinching the early advantage.
Marie Bertran De Belanda put the Royals up 2-0 with an impressive 2,5 win at #4 singles. "Marie has been nearly unstoppable this spring," said Coach Boykin. "She put in another fantastic performance today and I cannot say enough positive things about how hard she's been working. I am thrilled for her."
Jill Morse would the distance and emerge victorious Queens a 3rd point with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 2. singles. "Jill was really tough today," explained Boykin. "She is an amazing shot maker, a great competitor, and an even nicer person and I am so proud of her."
Hanna Axelsson followed as she clinched the match for the Royals with an epic 6-4 win in the third to give the Royals the point. "Mentally and physically, Hanna is one of our toughest outs," said Boykin. "She never gives up and makes her opponents earn everything. This was a vintage performance from her and she was rock solid at the end."
Queens will stay home this week as the team hosts North Carolina A&T on Friday, March 25th at 3:00 p.m.
