Bart Lundy Accepts Head Coaching Position at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head men's basketball coach Bart Lundy has accepted the position of head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Director of Athletics Cherie Swarthout announced today. Lundy has served as the head men's basketball coach at Queens for a total 14 seasons spanning across two stints with the University.

"Bart's success during both tenures with the Royals has set a high bar of excellence for Queens men's basketball," Swarthout stated. "While his records and accolades speak for themselves, what I have appreciated most during his time at Queens is who he is as a person and his professionalism. We wish him nothing but the best at UW-Milwaukee and look forward to his continued success on the hardwood."

Lundy is the winningest coach in Queens men's basketball history, having amassed a total of 333 wins with a 76% winning percentage. He reached the 400-career win milestone with his first win of the 2021-22 season and his 20-year career record currently sits at 429-190. In addition, from Nov. 24, 2015 – Dec. 31, 2019, Queens spent 65 consecutive weeks ranked in the coaches' poll (1,498 days), the longest such streak in program history.

In Lundy's 14 seasons at the helm, the Royals have advanced to the NCAA Championships 10 times reaching the national semifinals twice, the Elite 8 four times, and the Sweet 16 six times. This season, the Royals made their sixth straight NCAA appearance having reached the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in that time period. Queens also recorded a 30-plus win season for the fourth time in six years, having finished at a 30-4.

In addition, Lundy led the Royals to their sixth conference regular-season title during the 2021-22 season after winning a program-best 21 league games. Queens also posted its longest winning streak in program history at 17 games en route to winning its fifth conference tournament title.

"Queens will always be my family," Lundy commented. "I want to thank all the current and former players and staff that made this program more than a basketball team. My time here has given me some of the greatest memories of my life both on and off the court.  Queens is more than a University to me and I will forever be a Royal in my heart."

The Royals' most successful season in recent history was the 2017-2018 season when Queens posted a 32-4 record, surpassing the previous program-best record of 30-4 set during the 2016-2017 campaign. Queens opened the year 16-0, tying a program record for winning streak and best start to a season that was also set the previous year en route to winning the Southeast Regional Championship. The Royals advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2003, and with a win made their second all-time appearance in the national semifinals tying for the deepest postseason run in program history. During the regular season, Queens reached No. 1 in the national coaches' poll for the first time and spent the entire year in the top 10.

Lundy is a two-time conference coach of the year, was named NABC DII District Coach of the Year in 2019, and earned HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Week honors during the 2019-20 season. At Queens, he has coached one national player of the year, seven all-Americans, two region players of the year, four conference players of the year, two region tournament MVPs, two conference tournament MVPs, five all-district first-team selections, and 14 all-conference first-team selections.

Lundy first took over the Queens program at the age of 25 after helping then-head coach Dale Layer as an assistant for two years. In his first stint as head coach (1998-2003), Lundy took the Royals to their first regional title and Elite Eight appearance in 2001 and followed the success with a trip to the national semifinals in 2003. Three times in the five-year span Lundy's teams set the school record for wins in a season.

"I would like to thank President Lugo, Rich Majerus, and Cherie Swarthout for their incredible support and understanding through this process," Lundy added. "They are exceptional leaders."
