Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team remained unbeaten as they dropped No. 18 North Georgia by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center. In both Royals victories on the young season, Queens has inched past their opponents by a point.
The Royals kicked off the day by winning two of three doubles matches to claim an early lead, led by a 6-3 win at No.1 by the dynamic duo of
Jill Morse and
Marie Bertran De Balanda Balanda. The pairing improved to 2-0 on the young season together while the freshman duo,
Hanna Axelsson and
Amelie Allard dominated 6-1 at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
Queens used the momentum from the doubles action to take four of the six first sets in singles play, while also claiming three of six singles matches as senior
Viktorija Veselinova defeated the nation's 37th ranked singles player 7-5, 6-1 on the No. 1 court to clinch the win for the Royals.
Jill Morse put the Royals up 2-0 with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 performance at No. 2 singles, while freshman
Marie Bertran De Balanda raced out to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 to put the Royals up 3-0.
