Women's Basketballs Adds Graduate Transfer Kaiya Burnett

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With the season well underway, Queens women's basketball has had an impressive early showing in its first season as a Division I program. The team's roster experienced an overhaul in the offseason, now containing nine new student-athletes. With the non-conference season nearing its end, that list now grows to ten, as senior transfer Kaiya Burnett enters the roster after having transferred from Jacksonville State.

Burnett enters the Queen City after having spent roughly the last two seasons as a member of fellow ASUN member Jacksonville State's squad. Burnett is a speedy guard whose ability as a knockdown shooter caught head coach Jen Brown's eye, as she believes Burnett's presence will help lift the team. "Kaiya gives us more depth at the guard position" said coach Brown. "Her tireless work ethic and competitive spirit will blend well with our current roster. Kaiya's ability to knock down the deep ball will allow us to space the floor and open up more driving lanes. I'm ecstatic to have her join our family."

The last two seasons saw Burnett score 138 points, shooting an effective 50-151 from the field and 34-111 from the three-point line. Her 2021-22 campaign was her best, as she netted 126 points and shot 36.2% on the season. She managed a season-high 14 points twice during the season in games against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky. She also managed to grab 15 steals.

Prior to her time at JSU, she played JUCO ball at Pensacola State, a Division I member of the NJCAA. In her two years as a Pirate, she featured as one of the team's leading scorers in a competitive region that produced the 2018-19 champion. Her freshman season saw her post 12.8 points per game while shooting 80.6% from the charity stripe. She followed that up with an even more impressive sophomore campaign, leading the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game. She totaled 851 points in her time at the junior college level and quickly found herself on Jacksonville State's roster before ultimately finding a spot with the Royals.
