ATLANTA, GA. – Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer made history on Friday afternoon as they landed a pair of ASUN Postseason honors, as officially announced by the league. Senior Felipe Mendonca was named Second Team All-Conference while Boris Basara was named All-Academic Team. Mendonca becomes the first Royal in program history to land all-conference nods since the transition.
"It is a well-deserved recognition from all coaches in our conference," stated Head Coach Oliver Carias. "It's a great way to close out his college career with us. He has become one of our all-time goal scorers in our rich history. He was able to score and make a difference in Division I and II which is remarkable."
Mendonca, a native of Salvador, Brazil closed out his sensational career sitting eighth in career points with 60, sixth in career goals with 27, second in career game winning goals with seven. In his final season with the Royals, Mendonca started 13 matches and led the squad in points with 17 and goals with seven. The forward turned in multi-shot performances in every match this season and posted a shot on goal 10 of the 13 matches. The veteran notched the league's first hat trick of the season, and his fourth career against Jacksonville on Oct. 15.
Joining Mendonca on the ASUN Postseason honors is senior Boris Basara. The Graz, Austria native landed on the All-Academic Team marking the first Royal in program history to land the honors in the new transition. Basara holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in Business. This season, Basara was the only player to start all 16 matches this season turning in 12 complete game performances. The veteran defender helped the Royals backline post five shutouts, including road victories over regionally ranked UNC Wilmington and High Point.
"Boris has been an amazing team captain for us. His recognition highlights his work on and off the field. He has been a great ambassador for our program and athletic department in our business school. He has been an outstanding leader in our transition to D1 and the ASUN Conference."
