Queens Men's Tennis Announces 2023 Schedule

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team and head coach Michael Cabana are excited to announce the Royals first Division 1 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. Queens is set to face four ITA ranked opponents, including Wake Forest and Liberty who made the NCAA Tournament last season.
 
"We are very excited about this new chapter for Queens Men's Tennis," said head coach Michael Cabana. "We are excited to be competing in Division 1 and we embrace the challenges that are ahead of us. Our schedule is going to test us in many different ways and we are preparing every day to compete at a high level and leave it all on the court every single match."
 
The Royals will face a tough start to the season playing their first seven games on the road. Queens will kick off the season in Blacksburg on Sunday, Jan. 15 against Virginia Tech and James Madison. In the early road span, the Royals will take on Wake Forest twice who finished last season ranked No. 9 in the ITA National Rankings and No. 66 Liberty who made the NCAA Tournament after claiming the ASUN Championships.
 
Queens will take on crosstown rival Charlotte who finished last season ranked 48th in the ITA National Rankings on Saturday, February 4th in the Queen City. The Royals will wrap up their road trip with a pair of road games at North Carolina Central on Saturday, February 18th and Johnson C. Smith on Sunday, February 19th.
 
The Royals will play their first home game of the season on Thursday, March 2nd when North Carolina A&T comes to the Queens Sports Complex. The home opener will be the first of an eight game homestand for the Royals. Queens will play a pair of non-conference home games against Edinboro on Sunday, March 5th and Georgia Southern on Sunday, March 12th.
 
Queens will get their second taste of ASUN play, and the first at home when Kennesaw State comes to the Queen City on Sunday, March 19th. The Royals will play one final non-conference match on Tuesday, March 21st against Belmont Abbey at the Queens Sports Complex.
 
The Royals will wrap up their homestand with a weekend slate against Jacksonville State on Friday, March 24th before their final home game against North Alabama on Sunday, March 26th. Queens will hit the road for their final three matches as they head to Bellarmine, Florida Gulf Coast, and Stetson for the regular season finale.
 
The opening rounds of the ASUN Tournament will be played at the higher seeds beginning on April 13th and 14th. The Final Four will be hosted in Jacksonville beginning April 21st.
 
Queens is embarking on their first Division 1 season as a member of the ASUN Conference after posting a 15-5 record last year. The Royals won the South Atlantic Conference Tournament title and made their sixth NCAA Division 2 Tournament appearance. The Royals return 2022 SAC Player of the Year Edoardo Bottino after he posted a 12-5 dual record and 10-1 mark in league play last year.
