Michael Cabana

Michael Cabana joined the Royals as head men's tennis coach in May of 2022. Cabana joined the Royals from Wingate University where he led the men's and women's tennis programs since 2006.

In his first season with the Royals, Queens went 5-17 as they navigated their first Division 1 schedule. The Royals remained incredibly successful in the classroom as four Royals landed CSC Academic All-District honors, including Lukas Gosselin, Edoardo Bottino, Edoardo Cecere, and Samuele Pia. Additionally, Edoardo Bottino became the first player in program history to be named to the ASUN All-Academic Team
 
Queens' newest head coach was a 17-time SAC Coach of the Year having won for eight straight seasons on the women's side. He also earned ITA Women's Southeast Region Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year honors in 2016.
  
Cabana helped build both Bulldogs programs into powerhouses recording a 230-111 men's record and a 243-99 women's record. He has led Wingate to 19 South Atlantic Conference Regular-Season Championships 11 SAC Tournament Championships, and 17 NCAA Championship appearances. Additionally, he has coached six SAC Freshmen of the Year, two SAC Players of the Year, Two SAC Elite 20 Award recipients, and had representatives on the SAC All-Conference Teams list each year since the 2006 season. In 2018, Sydney Homan of the women's team was the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award regional and national winner.
 
Cabana's programs were high performing in the classroom as well, placing at least one athlete on the CoSIDA Academic All-American team for nine seasons. He also coached four SAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year and multiple ITA Scholar-Athletes from 2011-2022. Additionally, the women's team earned ITA All-Academic Team honors 10 times.
 
Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Cabana was a director and head tennis professional at TPC at Piper Glen from 2004-2006. He also served as the head boy's and girl's tennis coach at Weddington High School from 2002-2004 leading the teams to a combined five state playoff appearances. Before coaching the Warriors, Cabana spent six summers as the assistant tennis director at the Nike Tennis Camp, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
 
Cabana earned his bachelor's degree from Catawba College where he was a four-year letterman on the men's tennis team. He also holds a teaching license from NC State and a master's in sports administration from Wingate.
