ALLENDALE, Mich.- The 2021 NCAA DII Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships continued today with six of the Royals' nine competing at the Championships seeing some action.
Elise Ulseth wrapped competition in the heptathlon and competed in the 100-meter hurdles prelims along with
Melanie Welsing while
Seb Anthony and
Adam Wright raced in the 800-meter prelims. Additionally,
Stevie Lawrence-Wrist ran in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
After entering day two in the heptathlon sitting third with 3,214 points through four events, Ulseth completed the day in second place with 5,414 points to earn All-American honors. The multi-athlete earned 819 points in the long jump after posting a mark of 5.90 meters (19-4.25) before securing 679 points in the javelin throw with a mark of 40.63 meters (133-3) topping everyone in the field. She then completed the competition earning 702 points in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.29.
The second-place finish for Ulseth in the heptathlon is an improvement from her fourth-place finish in the 2019 Championships. It is her second time earning All-American honors in the event.
Lawrence-Wrist took sixth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn All-American honors at the Championships for the first time as a Royal. She completed the race in 10:28.43.
Anthony and Wright raced in the 800-meter prelims in the same heat. Anthony qualified for tomorrow's finals after clocking a time of 1:51.91 while Wright just missed out on the finals with a 12
th-best time of 1:53.89. Anthony's time today was the fifth fastest.
Ulseth and Welsing both advanced to tomorrow's finals after racing in the 100-meter hurdles prelims. Welsing ran in heat one, clocking a time of 13.74 seconds to win the heat while Ulseth ran in heat two finishing fourth in 13.99 seconds. Welsing's time was the best of the day and Ulseth's was fifth.
Queens' women currently sit seventh as a team heading into the final day of the Championships. They have a total of 17 points after
Fatima Alanis earned six in the 10,000-meter run yesterday, Ulseth earned eight in the heptathlon, and Lawrence-Wrist earned three in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The NCAA DII Outdoor Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships will continue through Saturday, May 29. The remaining schedule of events for Queens' athletes is listed below. Live video and results will be available for the entire Championship event.
