CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte Royals (11-1) will be playing for their seventh straight South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, April 25 inside Moretz Stadium on the campus of Lenoir-Ryne University.
The Royals will face second-seeded Limestone University (11-1) who ranks 13
th nationally while the Royals are ranked fifth in the nation.
Queens advanced to the Championship final after defeating fourth-seeded UVA Wise by a score of 22-4 on Friday afternoon. They were led by
Rachel Perrett who was simply too much for the Cavaliers defense to handle overmatching her opponents for nine points on seven goals and two assists. Her seven goals matched the program's single-game record.
Kara Blanchard finished with eight points, completing the hat trick and dishing out five assists while
Shannon Donovan ended the day with seven points coming by way of four goals and a hat trick of assists.
Kyleigh Masteran chipped in five points with two goals and three assists while
Ally Blood finished with four points on a goal and three assists.
Caroline Pearce added three points with two goals and an assist.
The Saints advanced to the final after defeating third-seeded Wingate, 14-10. Rachel Denney, Gracie DePaul, and Britannie Ouimet led with four points each. Ouimet recorded two goals and two assists while Denney and DePaul had three goals and one assist each.
Queens defeated the Saints during the regular season winning 9-8 with
Ally Blood scoring the game-winner. Blood finished the game with five points on two goals and three assists. Blanchard added four points on two goals and two assists and Masteran added two goals.
Ouimet leads Limestone with 65 points on 31 goals and 34 assists while Julia Foster has 47 points on 34 goals and 13 assists. Denney has 29 goals and 13 assists for 42 points and Elizabeth Muscella has 36 points on 29 goals and seven assists. In goal, Madelyn DeSoto is 10-1 on the year with a 41.4 save percentage.
Following Friday's win, Blanchard leads the Royals with 62 points on 35 goals and 27 assists. Blood has 60 points on 21 goals and 39 assists, and Perrett has 54 points on 39 goals and 15 assists.
Kyleigh Masteran has 38 points on 31 goals and seven assists while Shannon Donavan,
Sydney Bracken, and
Carson Giordano have 27, 25, and 22 points this season, respectively. In goal,
Sara Mitrecic is 7-1 with a 46.6 save percentage.
Though the Royals trail 20-5 in the all-time series with the Saints, Queens has come out victorious in the last two meetings between the pair. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
