CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte Royals will be back in action in the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Friday, April 23 in Hickory, N.C. The Royals, currently ranked fifth in the nation with a 10-1 overall record, will face fourth-seeded UVA Wise (8-5, 7-3).
Queens made it through the SAC regular season without a blemish finishing undefeated at 8-0 to earn their sixth regular season championship. They now begin their hunt for their seventh SAC Championship title after receiving a first-round bye.
The Cavaliers advanced to the semifinals after defeating fifth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne 12-11 in overtime. Trailing 11-8 with 8:11 to play, UVA Wise scored the final three goals of regulation to force overtime. Sydney Trask then scored the game winning with 27 seconds left on the clock to end the game. Ashley Wells led the Cavaliers with four goals while Katie Allen added three.
The Royals faced the Cavaliers in what ended up being their final regular season game on April 10. Queens was victorious coming out with a 23-5 Senior Day win. Leading the charge for Queens was
Kara Blanchard notching nine points by way of a hat trick and six assists. Not far behind was
Rachel Perrett who netted five goals to finish the day with six points.
Ally Blood added four points of her own with a goal and a trio of assists.
Sydney Bracken also finished with four points on a pair of goals and two assists.
Jesse French leads the Cavaliers with 74 points this season on 27 goals and 47 assists. She was recently named SAC Offensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Allen has 46 points on 37 goals and nine assists while Trask has 41 points on 37 goals and four assists. In goal, Jordan Edwards is 8-5 with a 38.9 save percentage.
Blood leads the Royals with 56 points this season on 20 goals and 36 assists. Blanchard has 54 points on 32 goals and 22 assists, and Perrett has 45 points on 32 goals and 13 assists.
Kyleigh Masteran has 33 points on 29 goals and four assists while
Sydney Bracken,
Carson Giordano, and Shannon Donavan have 24, 21, and 20 points this season, respectively. In goal,
Sara Mitrecic is 6-1 with a 44.6 save percentage.
The Royals lead the all-time series with the Cavaliers, 2-0. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
