SUMTER, S.C. – The second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to top-seeded Wingate University on Saturday morning in the SAC Women's Tennis Championship Finals from the Palmetto Tennis Center.
 
Doubles play saw the Queens' duo of Sasha Davidzenka/Yana Fleyer remain perfect on the year with a 6-4 win in the top flight before the tandem on Kate Halickman/Katya Khramtsova won 7-6 (9-7) to give the Royals a lead heading into singles play.
 
Singles play began with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 by Yana Fleyer before the Bulldogs evened the match score at 2-all with wins at No. 5 and No. 3.
 
A 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 marathon victory at No. 6 by Grace Forbes put the Royals within one point of clinching the match, however, Wingate responded with three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, to claim the tournament title for the second straight year.
 
The Royals will now await their NCAA Tournament fate which will be announced on Tuesday, May 4 at 8:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
