FORT MILL, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swimming teams swept the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships for the seventh straight year on Sunday night at the Fort Mill YMCA. The women's team totaled 1,868 team points and the men collected 1,892 team points over the four-day meet.
"It was great watching and cheering on our swimmers after a roller coaster of a first semester," said Associate AD and Director of Swimming
Jeff Dugdale. "Our upperclassmen, along with our incoming freshmen and transfers were determined to build on the solid foundation that our alumni have built."
On Sunday,
Francesca Bains won another distance title, taking the top spot in the 1,650-Yad Freestyle with a 'B' cut time of 16:36.58 which was almost 10 second faster than the next closest finisher.
Sophia Lange also turned in a 'B' cut and an all-conference finish.
Danielle Melilli won the 100-Yard Freestyle with a 'B' cut swim as teammates
Lexie Baker,
Giulia Grasso,
Anna De Boer, and
Kayla Tennant all finished with all-conference honors and 'B' times.
Natalie Van Noy and
Allyson Accordino rounded out the Top 8 finishers with 'B' swims of their own.
In the 200-Yard Backstroke,
Rachel Massaro won with a 'B' cut swim followed by all-conference performances from
Bobbie Gichard and
Vladyslava Maznytska. The 200-Yard Breaststroke saw
Hannah Foster earn all-conference honors with a 'B' cut swim and a fifth-place finish.
The women finished the night with a win in the 400-Yard Freestyle from the foursome of Foster, Melilli, Tennant and Bains.
The men's competition began with all-conference and 'B' cut swims from
Hendrik Faber,
Mohamed Hegazy and
Luke Erwee.
Garrison Johnson also had 'B' cut swim in the race.
Matej Dusa followed with an 'A' cut swim and first-place finish in the 100-Yard Freestyle and
Skyler Cook-Weeks had an all-conference swim, finishing fourth overall.
In the Andreas Marz won his first conference title with a 'B' cut time, followed by 'B' cut times and all-conference finishes from
Finn Howard and
David Wahlen.
Jan Delkeskamp continued his individual dominance, winning the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a 'B' cut time and teammate Balasz Bereca was the runner-up with a 'B; cut of his own.
Yannick Plasil finished fourth to collect all-conference honors.
In the final race of the meet, the grouping of Dusa, Cook-Weeks, Berecz and
Alex Kunert won the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.
