St. Leo, Fla. – In the final race of the season, the Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Championships and put together fantastic runs to close the impressive season. The women finished sixth overall while the men finished No. 20. The Championships were held in St. Leo, Florida at the gorgeous Abbey Golf Course.
The women opened the morning with the 6K race beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Fatima Alanis capped off an incredible rookie season with an individual third place finish at a time of 20:28.1. The South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year finished behind a pair of Grand Valley State runners. In just her second run of the season, sophomore
Madison Synowiec placed No. 16 at the championships with a time of 21:06.7. The Maryland native was coming off a fourth place finish at the Southeast Regional Championships.
Cherise Carreira and
Stevie Lawrence remained together for the duration of the race as the All-Conference honorees finished No. 50 and No. 52, respectively. Carreira made one final push down the last stretch and took No. 50 just beating a runner from Westminster.
Madison Webster would round out the top five for the Royals with a time of 22:57.7.
Following the women's race, the men kicked off the 10K at 9:45 a.m. Junior
Jan Lukas Becker finished a sensational season with a tenth place run and a time of 30:41.0. First Team All-Conference selection
Eric Keogh capped off an incredible rookie campaign placing No. 55 at 31:54.2. Mitch Cox,
Lance Sotelo, and
Remi Liberse rounded out the Royals finish.
After the races,
Fatima Alanis and
Madison Synowiec were awarded All-America honors on the women's side for their performances at the championships and throughout the season.
Jan Lukas Becker received All-America recognition on the men's side.
