ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte cross country teams managed to sweep the Astroturf SAC Runner of the Week honors following outstanding races at the USC Upstate Invitational last weekend. The conference announced on Tuesday morning that
Cherise Carreira (East London, South Africa) and
Jan Lukas Becker (Karlsruhe, Germany) garnered the recognition.
Carreira has been in the national spotlight this week as the freshman was named the USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week on Monday. The rookie participated in the five kilometers race over the weekend and stormed to a third-place finish with a time of 18:04.8. Carreira finished behind two NCAA Division I Furman athletes which helped the Royals to place sixth out of 17 participating programs.
On the men's side,
Jan Lukas Becker managed a nice tempo and cruised across the finish line in first place with a time of 25:35.2. The finish helped the Royals men place sixth overall at the invitational. This is Becker's third Runner of the Week honor this season.
Astroturf is an official corporate partner of the South Atlantic Conference and title sponsor of the Conference's Player of the Week awards program.
