SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's cross-country programs returned to the course this morning at the USC Upstate Invitational. The women's 5,000-meter run saw 132 competitors and the men's 8,000-meter run had 163.
The morning opened at 9:00 a.m. with the women's 5,000-meter run. Cherise Carreira was coming off a second-place finish at the Royals Challenge a week ago. The rookie maintained her dominance by placing third with a final time of 18:04.8.
Stevie Lawrence also ran with a nice tempo by finishing sixth with a time of 18:29.3. As a team,
Madison Webster and
Anna Janke would round out the top four as the pair ran together and finished at 20:09.4. Furman took the top two spots behind Emily Little and Abigail Robertson racing through the course with times of 17:28.7 and 17:44.0 respectively.
At the conclusion of the women's race, the Royals men took off in the 8,000-meter race.
Jan Lukas Becker ran closely with Wofford's Beck Classey and Mercer's Vladimir Zander-Velloso. Lukas Becker made one final push down the stretch and took first place with a time of 25:35.2. Fellow teammate
Eric Keogh continued a remarkable freshman campaign by placing 11
th with a time of 26:20.1.
Remi Liberse would place 37
th at 27:28.9 and teammates
Erick Sanchez,
Adam Wright, and Mitch Cox would run together and round out the top 50 in order.
