Queens Adds South Carolina Native to 2020 Class

Highlights

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
 – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team has announced the signing of Tristan Freeling to its roster for the 2020-2021 season. Freeling, a 6-4 guard from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, will enroll at Queens as a freshman in the upcoming fall semester.

In his senior season at Oceanside Collegiate Academy, Freeling averaged 18 points and 5.8 rebounds, while shooting 48 percent from the field and 36 percent from the 3-point line.  In his final two high school seasons, Freeling was named an all-region selection and was a 2019-20 First Team All-State honoree

"Tristan is a very accomplished high school player in the talent rich state of South Carolina that has produced Queens greats, Daniel Carr, Dan Bailey, Jalin Alexander and Brent Evans," said Royals head coach Bart Lundy. "Tristan is athletic and scores on multiple levels and has a strong work ethic and desire to continue to grow his game and play basketball at the highest level. His academic prowess and character is even greater than his basketball laurels and we think he is a huge addition to our basketball family and the Queens community."

Queens enters the 2020-2021 campaign after finishing 24-7 overall in 2019-2020, winning 10 of its final 11 games. The Royals capped the year with a fifth-straight top-25 finish in both major national polls, earning the No. 15 ranking in the final media poll and the No. 23 ranking in the final coaches' poll. Queens claimed the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Men's basketball Championship before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This past season marked the program's fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the 13th overall.

The Royals return two starters and six letter winners from last year's team. Freeling joins Kalib Mathews, Malcolm Stevenson, Kelyn Pennie, Kavan Hill, Quan McCluney, Stephen Minor, Josh Knox and Jerrel Kelly, as the ninth member of the 2020 recruiting class.
