CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Wednesday, Mar. 11, in his final game before the NBA G-League's shutdown due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, former Queens University of Charlotte All-American Todd Withers scored 27 points with seven rebounds. Four games earlier, Withers posted a career-high 30-point performance.
"I started playing really, really well," Withers said. "I feel like a lot of people started to hear more and more about me. It all depends on who wants to take that chance on that DII guy or that guy who not too many people really know about."
The league shutdown, at least temporarily, paused Withers's hopes at a 10-day contract and another call-up to the NBA.
In episode one of the new series
Royals in the Pros, Withers joins
Phil Constantino to discuss how the league's shutdown has affected him, his favorite memory from his four years as a Royal, and his message to his former teammates whose hopes at a final NCAA Tournament run were dashed by the tournament's cancellation. Withers also discusses his preseason stint with the Detroit Pistons and the thrill of making his NBA debut in Charlotte in front of his friends and family, just miles away from the Queens campus.
Royals in the Pros is a new long-form interview series from the
Queens Sports Network intended to update the Queens community on the successes of former Queens student-athletes competing at the professional level. The full-length version of episode one is below.
