Box Score 2 Hartsville, SC - The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (10-9; 0-2 SAC) lost a pair of tightly contested games in its Thursday doubleheader with Coker University (13-2; 2-0 SAC). Queens lost game one in heartbreaking fashion by a 5-4 final and dropped game two by a score of 4-1.
Game One: Coker 5 Queens 4
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Queens sophomore
Grace Valchar smashed a three-run home run to take the lead 3-1. The Cobras split the deficit in the bottom half of the inning, but the Royals answered with an RBI double by sophomore
McKenzie McCullen to lead 4-2. Queens held firmly to its two run lead until the bottom of the seventh when the Cobras rallied for two home runs and three straight hits to secure the walk-off victory.
Game Two: Coker 4 Queens 1
In an aptly played game that featured just five hits and no defensive errors, Coker paved its way to victory with four runs all coming in the third inning. Junior starting pitcher
Shannon McGuire kept the Cobras scoreless the rest of the way, but Queens only mustered one run in its defeat.
Queens travels to St. Augustine, Florida next for a non-conference doubleheader with Flagler College on Sunday, March 1st at 1 p.m.
