Box Score 2 Florence, SC - The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (9-6) won both games of its Saturday doubleheader defeating Frostburg State 9-1 and Francis Marion 3-1.
Game One: Queens 9 Frostburg State 1
The bats came alive early as Queens scored the first seven runs of the game led by
Alyssa Strickler's three hit performance. Strickler launched a two-run homer in the third and pitchers
Courtney Pearson and
Victoria Elder teamed up for five solid innings of work. The Royals eight run-ruled Frostburg State winning the game in five innings.
Game Two: Queens 3 Francis Marion 1
Starting Pitcher
Shannon McGuire surrendered a run in the first inning but shutout Francis Marion the rest of the way handing the Patriots just their second loss of the season. A solo home run by
McKenzie McCullen put the Royals up 2-1 and served as the game-winning run in the fourth inning. McCullen added on an RBI double in the sixth to buffer the lead to two runs and Queens held on for the 3-1 victory.
Queens returns to Charlotte for a midweek doubleheader with King University on Wednesday, February 26th starting at 1 p.m.
