CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Last week, Queens University of Charlotte swimmers
Hannah Aspden and
Carson Sanocki represented Team USA at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games at the Aquatic Center in Videna National Sports Village in Lima, Peru. The two swimmers combined for 10 total medals, including four gold medals, as Team USA finished second overall in the Games with 185 total medals.
Aspden, a sophomore, was voted as a captain for Team USA and did not disappoint in the pool. The Raleigh, N.C. native kicked off competition with a bronze medal in the SB8 100-Meter Breaststroke on Monday before taking gold in the S9 100-Meter Backstroke as Team USA claimed all three podium finishes in the race.
Another gold medal finish for Aspden occurred in the S9 400-Meter Freestyle where Team USA once again held the top three finishers. Aspden registered a third-place finish in the S9 100-Meter Freestyle race before finishing off the week with a silver medal finish with Team USA in the 4x100-Meter Freestyle Relay.
Sanocki, a junior, found great success for Team USA in his first Parapan American Games. The Charlotte native started strong in his first event on the international stage, setting a new American record in the S13 100-Meter Freestyle prelims with a time of 57.16. He followed that performance with a bronze medal in the event finale.
In his second event on Sunday, August 25, Sanocki helped the 4x100-Meter Freestyle Relay Team to a gold medal finish before collecting another gold medal in the SB13 100-Meter Breaststroke on Monday, Aug. 26. Thursday's action saw Sanocki tally a silver medal finish in the S13 (S12) 400-Meter Freestyle to increase his individual medal count.
Sanocki concluded the Games in exciting fashion on Saturday, Aug. 31 by setting a new Parapan Record in the SM13 200-Meter Individual Medley, edging out Matera Rocha of Brazil by just .31 of a second. Watch the record-setting performance by

The Royals unofficially kick-off their 2019-20 season on Friday, Sept. 20 with the team's annual Blue/Gold Intrasquad and Alumni Meet before hosting a ring ceremony to honor the 2019 NCAA Division II National Champions on the lawn in front of the Levine Center.
