KINGSVILLE, Texas – Freshman
Elise Hoel Ulseth recorded a score of 5,077 points in the heptathlon to finish fourth overall at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships and earn all-American honors for the first time in her collegiate career.
Ulseth entered the competition ranked fifth and came out of day one in 12
th place with 2,898 points. She began her climb up the leaderboard recording a mark of 5.92-meters in the long jump for 825 points. The long jump mark was the best in the field of competitors. She then threw a distance of 41.74-meters in the javelin for 701 points before wrapping competition with a 2:33.21 800-meter time that added 653 points to her total.
"Elise had an awesome second day," said Queens director of track & field and cross country
Jim Vahrenkamp. "She was able to score crucial points in the javelin and long jump when it mattered. Then she was able to hang on in the 800 to secure he spot and capture her first all-American award."
Martin Knauer opened competition today in the discus throw event recording a mark of 50.13-meters on his second throw of the day to claim 16
th place. He will compete in the shot put event tomorrow.
In the men's 800-meter run prelims,
Seb Anthony raced in heat one finishing sixth in 2:01.31. The top two runners in each of the three heats advanced to the finals along with the next two fastest times.
"The weather has been a real challenge for everyone at the meet," Vahrenkamp continued. "We've done a good job to stay out of the elements and keep hydrated. Tomorrow will be exciting as we will have athletes in multiple events in a position to score points."
Competition at the 2019 NCAA DII Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships will conclude tomorrow.
